Scenic Missouri Announces
New Executive Director and Two New Board Members
(Columbia, Missouri) Scenic Missouri, Inc., a Missouri non-profit and 501(c)3 tax exempt organization based in Columbia, has announced the
appointment of John Regenbogen as its new Executive Director effective
December, 2004. Mr. Regenbogen replaces Richard McFall, who had served as
interim Executive Director since May.
Mr. McFall will move onto the Board of Directors. Scenic Missouri also has announced the
addition of two new board members, Graydon “Gig” Gwin and Franc Flotron.
Founded in 1994, Scenic Missouri is a respected conservation
organization that works to protect and promote Missouri's natural
scenic beauty, rural landscapes, and urban community character. Over the last
decade, the work of thousands of Scenic Missouri members and volunteers has
directly improved the quality of life for Missouri citizens.
Accomplishments have included the successful passage of the first significant
changes to the Missouri Billboard Law in over thirty years as well as being a
leading force in the adoption of the Missouri Scenic Byways Program.
Board President (and founder and former Executive Director)
Karl Kruse commented, "John Regenbogen was selected for this important
position due to his unique experience in non-profit management, public
administration, law and grassroots outreach.”
Karl added, "Most attractive, though, is his vast personal
commitment to encouraging Missouri’s citizens
and government alike to value and protect our state’s tremendous scenic
beauty."
Mr. Regenbogen shared a preview of his plans for the future
by stating, "Missouri has been
blessed with an abundance of natural beauty and great urban communities. However, both our rural and urban landscapes
face significant threats that imperil the well-being of our Missouri
communities and diminish our sense of civic pride. I plan to serve as a scenic steward that
promotes Missouri’s
remarkable - but often underappreciated - natural scenery. I also look forward to working with local
citizens, community groups, businesses and governments in the pursuit of
implementing community appearance and other projects that enhance attractive
communities and civic pride.
The Board of Directors of Scenic Missouri was also pleased to
announce the addition of Mr. Gwin and Mr. Flotron to the board. A resident of Kirkwood, Gig Gwin
is an accomplished travel professional. Gig is the proprieter of Gwins Travel
as well a noted travel journalist and guest speaker. Having traveled to almost
every country in the world, he travel advice has
appeared in the pages of several newspapers, including the St. Louis
Post-Dispatch, and he has been featured in numerous television and radio
programs.
Franc Flotron is a former Missouri State Senator representing
the 7th District. While in Jefferson
City, Franc served as Minority Leader and served on the
Ways and Means, Administration, and Appropriations Committees, among others.
His legislative accomplishments included leading bi-partisan support of the
Master Tobacco Settlement Agreement. Mr. Flotron resides in Chesterfield, and is a
founder and principal of Flotron & McIntosh, LLC.
Before their appointments, Scenic Missouri briefly had been
without a board member from the St. Louis region.
Mr. Regenbogen commented, “The appointment of these distinguished gentlemen
will allow Scenic Missouri to work with St. Louis area
communities with a renewed energy and focus to protect and enhance the region’s
remaining, but endangered, rural landscapes as well as to improve the scenic
character of our urban core.”
